  • Indiana will soon join other states with low income and high unemployment after Gov. Mitch Daniels signed into law a union-busting bill that will allow employees who are bargaining unit members to opt out of paying union dues but still receive the benefits negotiated by the union. Daniels signed the bill only hours after it passed the right-wing controlled Senate. AFL-CIO spokesman Jeff Harris said protesters planned to hand out leaflets before sunday's game. AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka issued the following statment after the Senate passed the bill: " Today's passage of the so-called " right to work" bill in Indiana marks a sad day for working Hoosier. It reflects an extreme pastisan agenda that is all about payback to corporate donors, instead of creating good jobs for working families and fostering a middle-class economy. We all know that "Right to work" policies don't create jobs. Study after study has shown that they reduce wages, benefits, and safety for all working people- the  last thing anyone needs in this economy. It's a shame that flip-flopping politicians like Gov. Daniels are focusing on a divisive partisan agenda-rather than creating jobs as they were elected to do"
